-Motion Design
When you’re asked to build motion graphics for an event with thousands of attendees and you have… roughly 3 weeks to do it, what do you say?
“Absolutely. Let’s do this.”
I recently had the joy of working alongside Attended Events to deliver a series of motion assets for Pendo’s CKO26 conference. And not just on any screen — this was a 12,000 x 1,280 pixel LED wall.
Process
Fortunately, Attended’s crew had plenty of design assets built and ready. It became my job to pull them apart and make ‘em move in 3D space, but without making anyone in the audience sick.
I met with them in their Raleigh HQ to hammer out the details (definitely not going to the wrong building first). I drew on a whiteboard for a bit (always a treat), and we figured out a realistic plan for getting everything done. We decided to build out a few different “worlds” in which the keynotes would happen, with transitions to take us from world to world.
From there, it was a flurry of keyframes and coffee. I built loops, animated textures, transitions, static frames, and a 20 second intro video for the CEO. It was a lot of work for such a tight turnaround, but that’s the world of live events.
LED Wall: 16’ x 150’
aka 1280×12,000px
My weird home for a few days.
(These look much cooler when they’re 150ft. wide)
Results
“Damn.”
“We finally got the value out of that huge LED wall.”
“The CFO said everything looked amazing”
“The board was impressed, everyone was so impressed. You made us look cooler than we’ve ever looked”
Plus, a literal hug from the Pendo client!
The team at Attended deserves all the credit in the world for making such a wild event happen. Shout out to every single one of them. To the folks behind the stage running everything so smoothly — you’re all wizards. It was fun and educational to be along for the ride.
